***SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT***

Edward de Boo, Latin Teacher at Classical High School, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for participation in the 2008 Summer Classics Institute offered by the American Academy in Rome. Mr. de Boo will study the historical development, material culture, architecture, and archaeology of 'the eternal city' for 4 weeks in Rome, and then the history of Greek colonization in Italy for 2 weeks near Naples (the Oracle of Apollo at Cumae).

Mr. de Boo also applied for and received the Classical Association of New England Caitlin Coulter Memorial Scholarship for study at the American Academy in Rome. He will use this opportunity to deepen and broaden his knowledge of Roman history and associated topics. Mr. de Boo's goal is to enrich and diversify teaching strategies in order to engage Classical High School students in imaginative as well as critical exploration of the languages and civilizations of antiquity. Additionally, he wants to enrich the curriculum by making students aware of realities outside the modern American socio-economic and -political bubble. Mr. de Boo intends to return with many photographs, videos, and memorabilia that will illustrate various realities of Mediterranean life and appeal to students' intellectual and creative energies as well as their multicultural sympathies."

40’s

Jim Winoker ’49, and his wife, Marilyn, received the Humanitarian Award given by the National Jewish Medical Research Center at a dinner in May. Jim is the owner of the Rhode Island property management and development firm, Belvoir Properties, Inc. in Providence.

70’s

Steve Cascione ’73, is a forecast Meteorologist for ABC6 in Providence and owner of Ocean State Weather. He and his wife Rhonda have two sons and recently adopted a daughter from Russia.

Paul Jabour ’73, is a Rhode Island Senator and practices law in Providence.

Theresa Roberts Prescott '73, holds a B.A. and an MBA from the University of Rhode Island and was a Human Resources director for several businesses in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut until "retiring" due to multiple sclerosis in 2000. She has been married since 1978 to Richard Prescott, a clinical trainer for the State Department for Children Youth and Families. Their son, Joshua, graduated from The Prout School and has a B.F.A. from the University of Rhode Island.

Gary Johnson ’75, is a Lead Engineer, Network Services at Verizon. He attended Providence College, Roger Williams University and Massachusetts Community College during his 25-year career. He currently lives in Cranston with his wife Joann, and their four children.

Dr. Cheryl A. Kassed '75, is 1979 graduate of RI College. After a rewarding 16-year career as a teacher of Special Education and Science in New Hampshire and Florida , she began her second career by attending graduate school at the University of South Florida ’s Colleges of Public Health and Medicine. Cheryl graduated with an MSPH in Environmental Health and a PhD in Medical Sciences (focused on Neuropharmacology), and she met her husband Geoffrey Patton during her internship in a Pathology research lab. She received postdoctoral laboratory science training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda , Maryland before becoming a science communicator. She currently lives just outside of Washington , DC in Wheaton ,Maryland with her husband, Geoffrey Patton, PhD and her four wonderful “rescue” dogs. Her work focuses on researching and writing about co-occurring substance abuse and mental illness, advances in pharmacology and healthcare, adolescent brain development, and dementias. Cheryl and Geoff enjoy snowboarding, surfing, bicycling, hiking, and spending time with friends and family, and they welcome visitors to DC, the center of the universe!

Nancy Wolpert Rachman ’75, is currently Vice President of Nickelodeon Home Entertainment where she is responsible for developing and marketing all the DVDs based upon the Nickelodeon TV shows. Yes, she does know Sponge Bob personally! She is married and living in New York City.

80’s

Deborah Cohen ’84, graduated from Reed College and has been living in Germany since 1992. She teaches English and German.

Kim Evon ’84, graduated with a BA in Labor Studies from Antioch University. She has been working for the Service Employees International Union for the past 15 years. She currently serves as the special assistant to the Secretary-Treasurer for the Member Activism Project. She resides in Maryland.

Jeff Farley ’84, is the CFO for Microsoft Canada. He graduated from Colby College and received is MBA from the Franklin W. Olin School of Management, Babson College. He lives in Washington with his wife, Mary and three children.

Alan Gunther ’84, is the Branch Librarian at the Smith Hill Branch of the Providence Public Library. He received his Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Rhode Island in 2005.

Lisa Harris '84, has lived in Stone Mountain, Georgia for 17 years. Lisa currently works at Grady Memorial Hospital as a Radiation Oncology Medical Social Worker. She received her Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree in 1991 from Temple University and her undergraduate BA degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1988. Lisa has an eight year old daughter named Sarah.

Sergio DeSousarosa '85, attended college and joined the RI Army National Guard. He served in two wars; Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom, before retiring from the military in 2004.
Segio is now a Deputy Warren at the RI Department of Corrections and travels to Florida, Colorado, Texas, and the Bahamas to assist in training and evaluating other correctional departments and facilities.
He enjoys photography, running (these days at a jog), shooting, coin collecting, and going out with friends. He is also back in college for his own personal growth. Married since 1992 to his wife, Stacey, they have two great children, Sergio, Jr. and Heather.

Laura Pisaturo, Esq., '85, A former Assistant Attorney General for the State of Rhode Island, Laura now serves as the Director of Advocacy & Legal Services at Day One, a non-profit sexual assault advocacy and resource center in Providence. One of 6 Pisaturo children who attended Classical H.S., Laura and her partner, Maria, were married in Boston in June 2007 and make their home in Warwick, RI.

Ellen Christian-Reid ’86 and her husband Charles are expecting their first child in December. She has been working in various independent schools in institutional advancement/development since moving to New York after teaching at both Central and Mt. Pleasant High School. She is currently the Director of Major Gifts for the Hopkins School in Connecticut.

Christopher L. Francazio '86, is Principal, Hinckley Allen & Tringale Health Strategies He has over ten years of healthcare consulting experience on projects related to graduate medical education, revenue optimization, hospital merger integration, process redesign, strategic planning, managed care contracting, financial
modeling, systems implementation, and third-party reimbursement. His major responsibilities have included the detailed review and development of allopathic and osteopathic GME programs, the development of financial and operational models to assess the value of GME, and strategic GME planning.

Peter Klibanoff '86, is an Associate Professor of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences Peter Klibanoff joined the Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1994. He teaches competitive strategy and statistics at the MBA level and decision theory at the doctoral level.His research interests span a broad range of topics in economic theory.

Joseph Listengart '86, is Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of KMR, Kinder Morgan G.P., Inc. and KMI. He was elected Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of KMR upon its formation in February 2001. He was elected Vice President and General Counsel of Kinder Morgan G.P., Inc. and Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of KMI in October 1999. He received his Masters in Business Administration from Boston University in January 1995, his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Boston University in May 1994, and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Stanford University in June 1990.

Catherine Miale '86 created a business in 2005, The Catherine Hanna Company, LLC . Which does business as OC DVD Solutions (www.oc-dvd.com) and is developing OC Raw Food (www.ocrawfood.com). She resides in California with her husband Noah and daughter Catherine Hanna.

Laura Colella '87, was one of the Sundance Institute's eight Directing Fellows for 2000. She spent five weeks at their Directing and Screenwriting Labs, work shopping her screenplay for "Stay Until Tomorrow". For the film's production, the Sundance Institute arranged for donations of a 35MM camera, film stock, lab services, titles package, and editing software. Laura's first feature, "Tax Day" (1998, 16MM) appeared in numerous festivals and venues, winning awards such as the Breakthrough Award, Best Narrative, and Best First Feature. Her short film Statuary (1995, 16MM) has been screened at over fifty venues internationally. For Statuary, Laura received ten festival awards, such as Most Promising Filmmaker and the Eastman Kodak Best Experimental Film Award. Laura is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University , and two films she made as an undergraduate also played at over a dozen festivals, winning a handful of awards. Laura has received grants and fellowships from The New England Foundation for the Arts, the LEF Foundation, Harvard University , the Andy Warhol Foundation, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. She is based in Providence , RI , and teaches Film Production part time at the Rhode Island School of Design

Gina Carbone ’88, is a third grade teacher in Providence. She holds a Masters degree in Special Education from Providence College and teaches dance and choreography. Gina also volunteers with the Big Sister organization in Rhode Island.

Lori Dermksian Cioffi ’88, graduated from the University of Rhode Island and currently resides in Rhode Island with her husband and two children. Before taking on her role as a stay-at-home mom, she worked as a Management consultant/Project Management consultant for Veritude, a Fidelity Investments Company.

Michael Kang '88, is a Korean American filmmaker trying to get comfortable with the idea that he is based in Los Angeles. His feature film directorial debut "The Motel" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is currently on DVD through Palm Pictures. “The Motel” is the recipient of the Humanitas Prize as well as the top jury prizes from numerous festivals, “The Motel” was also nominated for Best First Feature Film by The Independent Spirit Awards. Recently, Michael was honored with a National Endowment for the Arts Artist’s Residency Grant at The MacDowell Colony. Michael is recipient of the Geri Ashur Award in screenwriting through the New York Foundation for the Arts. Michael also received a fellowship through the ABC / DGA New Talent Television Directing Program.  Michael premiered his second feature “West 32nd” at The Tribeca Film Festival and had its international premiere at the Pusan International Film Festival. Terry Shea '88, currently resides in Providence (yet again) and is a Technology Manager with GTECH and, in his spare time, serves as the Technical Director on the Board of Governors for Academy Players of East Greenwich. He is also an on-air personality with WBOB, Renegade Radio (LIVE 365) on Sunday nights and has 2 daughters, Miranda (12) and Fionna (7).
 

90’s

Joel Pace ’90, received his Masters and Doctorate degrees from Oxford University and is a tenured professor at the University of Wisconsin. He has published two books and is currently working on a third. He resides in Minnesota.

Tyrone Marsh ’92, is the Director of English as a Second Language Program at Elmira College in New York. He received his Masters degree from Columbia University in 2005 and lived in Korea while working for the Samsung Corporation. He now resides in New York with his wife and two children.

Doug Banks '90, received his MS in Computer Science from UC Berkeley in '95 and has been working in Silicon Valley ever since. He is currently working at Google on Google Book Search & Google Patent Search.

Jason Lufkin '93, received an AAS in Business from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. He resides in Easley, South Carolina with his wife of 6 years, 3 children (4th due in May) and is working for Terminix, Inc.

Marlon Depaz '94, holds BS Electrical Engineering degree from URI. He is currently a Senior Radio
Frequency Engineer for a wireless communications company.

Dorothy Doniec ’95, is a pharmacy manager for Brooks Pharmacy in Providence

Susan Rossi ’97, graduated from Bentley College in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She is a CPA for the State of Massachusetts and Audit Manager for KPMG, LLP in Providence.

Adam Barros '99 is a Firefighter with the Johnston Fire Department.

Alexis Brown '99, was the winner of the New England Idol 2007 competition sponsored by WPRI in Providence. This title guaranteed Brown an Idol audition in Philadelphia for judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Best of luck, Alexis!

Eric Parrapodi '99, attended Quinnipiac University where he received a Bachelors in Broadcast Journalism. Today he is a Producer for CNN based in Washington, DC. Prior to that he was based in New Orleans, LA for CNN covering the recovery effort after Hurricane Katrina. He and his wife Dawn live outside Washington, DC.

Mary Cogean '01, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education from Rhode Island College. She is currently working as a Special Education Teacher at Harmony Hill School in Chepachet, Rhode Island.

Amy Diaz '01, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communication with a minor in Psychology from Barry University, Miami Shores, FL. In May of 2007, Amy continued on at Barry University earning dual Master degrees in Business Administration and Sport Management. She is a nationally recognized President and Founding Sister of the Iota Theta Chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority and was the recipient of several leadership awards including: Graduate Assistant of the Year, Greek Organization President of the Year, Residential Life Hall Staff of the Year, and National Broadcasting Society Outstanding Member of the Year. Amy is former Miss Rhode Island Teen USA 2001, and currently holds the title of Miss Rhode Island USA 2008. Amy will represent the Ocean State at the 2008 MISS USA pageant in April !

Kristin Pirolli ’01, graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Masters of Physical Therapy degree. She is currently working in the pediatrics field in Charleston, South Carolina.

Allison Pirolli ’03, was the Commencement speaker at the University of Rhode Island Commencement exercises in May. She graduated with a degree in Communications and plans to tour Europe this summer.

Sasha Zacarias ’06, was named Miss Rhode Island Latina 2008 and will compete in the Miss Latina US pageant.

Katie Pirolli ’07, the fifth member of the Pirolli family to graduate from Classical will be attending the University of Rhode Island to begin studies in the Human Services/Education field.

Jonathan Wolpert ’07, graduated in May as the third generation and seventh member of his family to earn a diploma from Classical High School. He will attend Emory University in the fall to study business.
